Cakes by Occasion
Nine pages, one for each occasion we are asked about most, each with the size, the price and the one piece of timing that catches people out. Everything is made to order in a home kitchen in Bracknell and delivered across Berkshire from £30.
Which cake suits which occasion?
The occasion decides the size and the decoration, and those decide the price. Below is what people actually order for each one — nine rows, from £70 for two people up to £270 for two tiers and 30 slices.
| Occasion | Usually ordered | From | Slices |
|---|---|---|---|
| First birthday | 4" Bento Cake for the baby plus a 6" cake | £70 + £100 | 4 + 8–12 |
| Birthday | 6" or 8" themed | £100–£130 | 8–18 |
| 18th to 60th | 8", 10" or two tiers | £130–£270 | 14–30 |
| Baby shower & gender reveal | 6" or 8" | £100–£130 | 8–18 |
| Christening & communion | 8" | £130 | 14–18 |
| Engagement & anniversary | 4" Bento Cake for two, or two tiers for a party | £70 or £270 | 4 or 22–30 |
| Graduation & retirement | 24 cupcakes, or a 10" cake | £138 or £150 | 24 or 22–28 |
| Eid | 6" to 10" | £100–£150 | 8–28 |
| Christmas | Themed, any size | From £120 | 8–28 |
A wedding is the one occasion with its own page and its own rules — wedding cakes. Sizes and what each one feeds are set out in full on prices.
Does the occasion change the price?
No. A christening cake and an eighteenth-birthday cake of the same size, with the same amount of work on top, cost the same: £130 for an 8-inch either way. What moves the price is the diameter, whether there are two tiers, and how much modelling the decoration needs — not the words written on it. The only charge the occasion can add is a rush: 50% on top inside 7 days, and only if the diary allows it.
What the price does follow
6" — £100, 8–12 slices
8" — £130, 14–18 slices
10" — £150, 22–28 slices
6" + 8" — £270, 22–30 slices
When do you need to ask?
7–10 days for a single cake, 14–20 for two tiers, 3–5 for a bento. The table turns those into dates for the occasions that are coming, because nobody holds a number of days — they hold a date and want to know whether it is still possible.
If the ask-by date in the table has already passed, the answer is not automatically no. Inside 7 days a rush adds 50% and depends on what is already in the diary; a bento needs only 3–5 days at the normal price, which is why it is the right answer to a date that is days away rather than weeks. Ask either way — the reply says yes or no on the same day rather than leaving you guessing.
When do I have to ask by?
The dates people order for, and the last day to ask for each. A simple cake wants 7–10 days; two tiers or detailed decoration want at least 14. Past that, a rush adds 50% if the diary has room.

Easter, Christmas and New Year are taken from the government’s bank holiday list; Mothering Sunday is the fourth Sunday of Lent, counted back from Easter. Eid and Diwali are not here because they move with the lunar calendar — tell us your date and we will count back from it. Popular Saturdays go before any of these deadlines do, so asking early costs nothing.
What if your occasion is not on the list?
Then nothing changes. The nine above are the ones we are asked about most often, not the nine we are willing to bake — a housewarming, a hen party, a leaving-the-country party and a “sorry about your car” cake are all the same 6-inch at £100 or 8-inch at £130, with whatever is written on top. The occasion matters to the page, because it decides which questions are worth answering; it does not matter to the oven. Tell us what it is for and the quote comes back the same way.
A wedding is the single exception, and only because the timing differs: two tiers need 14–20 days against 7–10 for one, and the balance falls due 7 days before rather than on the day.
What should you say in an enquiry?
Four things, and the quote comes back the same day: the date, roughly how many people, the occasion, and whether anyone has an allergy. Everything else — flavour, colours, whether there is a figure on top — can be decided afterwards, because none of it changes whether the date is free. A 50% deposit holds it.
