Balloon Cakes in Bracknell
A balloon cake is a cake with a cluster of fondant balloons rising above it. The cake underneath starts at £100 for a 6-inch cutting 8–12 slices, or £130 for an 8-inch cutting 14–18; the cluster is quoted with the design, and a number under it is £20. Made to order in Bracknell.
It is the only decoration here that buys height instead of sponge, which is why these photograph like a bigger order than they are. One practical thing: the balloons lift out before anybody cuts the cake.

Why do balloons make a cake look bigger than it is?
Because they add height without adding cake. Every other route to a tall cake costs sponge: a second tier, a deeper bake, a stack of extra layers. A balloon cluster occupies the space above the cake instead, so a 6-inch at £100 with balloons over it fills a photograph the way a much larger order would, while still cutting the 8–12 slices it always cut. That is the honest appeal of this cake and it is a real one — it is the best value per inch of apparent size on the whole site.
Three ways to buy height
Balloons above the cake — quoted, and no extra sponge at all.
A taller cake — more layers, more cake, priced in conversation.
A second tier — two-tier cakes, and the tiered notice of 14–20 days.
A number standing on top, at £20 — height from the decoration again.
How do the balloons actually stay up?
On wires or sticks, pushed down through the icing into the sponge. Each balloon is modelled in fondant and then left to dry until it is hard — a soft one sags on its wire within the hour, which is the whole reason this cake wants the longer end of 7–10 days rather than a morning. Once dried they are light enough for a thin support and rigid enough to hold a curve, and the cluster is mounted at the last stage so nothing is leaning during transport. Two consequences for the day: carry the cake flat and low with nothing above it, as cake care sets out, and lift the cluster straight out before the first cut.
Which birthdays do these suit?
A first birthday and a milestone, for opposite reasons. At one year old the cake is being photographed more than eaten, and a bright cluster over a small cake with sprinkles at £0 gives the photograph everything it needs — which is why first birthdays are the single biggest source of these orders. At the other end, two or three balloons in one metallic colour with a number at £20 underneath is the quiet grown-up version, and it is ordered steadily for the ages on milestone birthdays. What it suits least is a themed cake that already has a character or a scene on it; for those, novelty cakes is the right page and the balloons are one decoration too many.
