Half-and-Half Cakes in Bracknell
One cake, split down the middle: two colours on the outside, two flavours inside, two initials if it is for two people. From £100 for a 6-inch.
It solves the problem a single tier otherwise cannot — one tier is one flavour — for £140 less than a second tier costs.

What does a half-and-half cake cost?
| Item | Price |
|---|---|
6" split cake Two colours, or two flavours, in one tier — the split is part of the finish 8–12 portions | £100 |
8" split cake Two colours, or two flavours, in one tier — the split is part of the finish 14–18 portions | £130 |
6" + 8" two tiers The other way to get two flavours, and £140 more 22–30 portions | £270 |
The split is part of the finish rather than an addition, so the price is the size price. All 10 flavours cost the same as each other, and the colours page explains which shades behave.

Why does the seam decide whether it works?
Because a split cake is a symmetry claim, and the eye audits symmetry ruthlessly. A vertical line down the centre of a round cake is either exactly central and exactly plumb, or it is wrong in a way everybody feels before anybody says. There is no decoration that rescues a seam that leans.
That is also why the two halves have to bake to the same height. Sponge rises slightly differently with different cocoa, fruit or colour content, so a chocolate half and a vanilla half are levelled to match before anything is assembled. It is a small amount of extra care rather than extra cost — which is why the split is priced as a finish.
Which pairings actually look right?
Pairs with a real difference in weight. Black against ivory is the classic and the one in the gallery, because it is as far apart as two colours get and the gold detail works across both. Navy against blush, deep green against cream, and burgundy against white all do the same job. What rarely works is two colours of similar tone, where the split reads as an accident of lighting.
The same applies to the flavours. Chocolate against vanilla is the pairing people actually want, because it is the division a room divides along; two subtle flavours on either side of a seam is a distinction nobody will notice once the cake is cut.
When is a split cake the wrong answer?
When you need more cake rather than more choice. A split 8-inch feeds the same 14–18 as a plain one, so if the room is bigger than that, the second tier at £270 is buying portions as well as flavour and is the honest purchase. And when the two things you want are a colour scheme and a theme, because a split cake is already using its whole surface to make one point.
The single-tier page sets out the one-tier-one-flavour problem with prices, two-tier cakes the alternative, letter cakes the initials, and engagements the occasion this is ordered for most. Lead time 7–10 days.
