Letter Cakes & Monograms in Bracknell

An initial, a monogram or a name on a round cake — piped, cut flat from fondant or modelled and stood up — from £100 for a 6-inch cutting 8–12 slices. The lettering is part of the price, not an extra on top of it.

And the thing the query hides: this is a letter on a cake. A letter-shaped cake cut from a sheet is not something this kitchen makes — the cakes here are round, in four sizes.

How much lettering fits on which size?

Cake tops are smaller than they look in photographs, and lettering is the decoration most often asked to do too much. The table below is the practical limit for each size — the point at which letters stop reading as handwriting and start reading as a label on a jar.

SizeComfortablyAt a push
6"An initial, or twoA short first name
8"A first nameA name and an age
10"A name and a short lineTwo short lines
12 cupcakesA whole name, a letter eachTwo words, if the box is bigger

The side of a cake is the forgotten surface: a name low on the side of a 6-inch leaves the whole top free for everything else.

Why do monograms work so well on cakes?

Because a single letter is a strong shape with nothing to decode. A cake covered in a theme has to be interpreted; an initial in gold on white is read instantly, from any distance, by everybody in the room, and it suits occasions where a theme would be undignified — an engagement, a christening, an anniversary, a retirement. It is also the cheapest strong design on the site, because the price follows the size rather than the decoration, and one letter is one letter.

When is a printed topper the better answer?

When the lettering has to be exact rather than hand-made: a company name, a logotype, a particular font, a line in a language that has to be spelled correctly in a script nobody in the kitchen reads. Printing onto an edible sheet gets those right where piping would approximate them. Everything else — a name, an initial, a message — looks better by hand, because handwriting on a cake is supposed to look handwritten.

Logo cakes covers what prints well and what goes soft, and birthday cake ideas the colours to put it on.
