Three-Tier Wedding Cakes
A three-tier cake of 6, 8, 10 inches cuts about 44–58 slices — it is three cakes, so it feeds what three cakes feed. Made in Bracknell, delivered in pieces and stacked at the venue.
The price is quoted with the design rather than printed, and the section below sets out how the quote is built so that the number arrives explained rather than bare.

How many slices is each tier?
A tier is a cake, so the arithmetic is addition rather than a chart from somebody else’s website. The table below is this kitchen’s own portion counts for the three sizes that make up a standard stack, and their total.
| Tier | Slices | As a single cake |
|---|---|---|
| 6" | 8–12 | £100 |
| 8" | 14–18 | £130 |
| 10" | 22–28 | £150 |
| All three stacked | 44–58 | Quoted with the design |
The top tier is often kept rather than cut, which takes 8–12 slices out of the total — worth saying before the numbers are counted.
What is the stacking itself worth?
More than nothing and less than people fear, and the two-tier cake says exactly how much. Its two cakes are £230 as singles and the finished two-tier is £270 — so boards, dowels, the matching finish and the setting-up come to £40 on two tiers. A third tier adds another cake and another round of that work, which is why the quote is written rather than printed: the decoration, not the stacking, is what moves it. A cake in one colour with a ribbon costs a fraction of one with sugar flowers on every tier.
Is a cutting cake the cheaper way to feed everybody?
Usually, and it is what large weddings have always done. Put a two-tier cake at £270 on the table for the photographs and a plain 10-inch at £150 in the kitchen to be sliced out of sight; between them they cut about 44–58 slices. Nobody at the table can tell which cake their slice came from, because it is the same cake with less icing on it. Order the third tier when you want the height — which is a good reason, and a different one.
Two ways to feed a hundred
Three tiers: about 44–58 slices, quoted with the design.
Two tiers at £270 plus a 10-inch cutting cake at £150: about 44–58 slices.
Either way, 14–20 days of notice, and the date booked far earlier.
