New Home Cakes in Bracknell

A housewarming cake is usually a small one with the house number on it. The number in fondant is £20 with up to three words beside it; a 4" bento is £70 and feeds 4, 6 cupcakes are £45, and a 6-inch cake from £100 cuts 8–12. Made to order in Bracknell and delivered across Berkshire.

One thing decides this order more than the design: whether it is for moving day or for a party weeks later. On moving day the kitchen is in boxes, and a cake that needs a knife is a present that needs solving.

Moving day or housewarming — which cake are you buying?

They are a month apart and they are not the same order. Moving day has no plates, no knife, no clear surface and frequently no working fridge, so the cake that suits it is one nobody has to do anything to: cupcakes out of a box, or a 4" bento at £70 that sits on a worktop between the kettle and the boxes. A housewarming three weeks later is an ordinary party with an ordinary cake, and a 6-inch at £100 or an 8-inch at £130 is the right answer. Buying the party cake for the moving day is the commonest mistake on this page.

What usually goes on top

The house number in fondant — £20, with room for a street name.

A key, or the front door in the right colour; see cake colours on matching a shade.

The address written on top — included, because writing always is.

A photograph of the house on an edible sheet, which is the photo cakes route.

Why does a modelled house rarely work?

Scale. A 6-inch cake gives a decorator a top about the size of a side plate, and a recognisable house needs a roof pitch, windows, a door and something telling you which house it is — four things that at that scale come out as a brown block with dots on it. The number does the whole job in one element and at a size you can read from across a room, which is why it is on most of these cakes and the house is on almost none of them. If the house itself really is the point, the honest route is a photograph printed onto icing rather than modelled, or a carved cake quoted with the design in the way novelty cakes sets out.

What happens if the completion date moves?

Tell us as early as you can and the booking moves with it. A deposit transfers to another date on 4 days’ notice, which is the policy written out on the terms page; after that it stays non-refundable, because by then the cake is being made. This matters more here than on any other occasion page, since a completion date is the least reliable date anybody orders a cake for. If the move lands inside a week of the new date, last-minute cakes explains what is still possible and what the rush rate of +50% covers. The nearest relative of this order is a thank-you cake — one small cake, one line, thought of late.
