Carrot Cake Made to Order in Bracknell
Spiced carrot sponge, cream cheese frosting, walnuts in the recipe. It is one of our ten cake flavours, so it comes in any size with any decoration — from £100 for a 6-inch feeding 8–12 to £150 for a 10-inch feeding 22–28.
The flavour does not change the price here. The size does.
What is actually in a carrot cake?
Grated carrot, warm spice, oil instead of butter, and cream cheese frosting rather than buttercream. Ours is spiced carrot sponge with cream cheese frosting and walnuts. The carrot is not there for flavour in the way an orange would be — it is there for moisture and a faint sweetness, which is why a good carrot cake tastes of cinnamon and cream cheese rather than of vegetables.
The oil is the part worth knowing about. A butter sponge is creamed, which traps air and sets firm; an oil sponge stays soft and keeps longer, and will not go hard in a fridge. That is the real difference between a carrot cake and almost everything else on the flavour list, and it decides both how it keeps and how it behaves on a warm afternoon.
Is carrot cake the healthy one?
No. It is cake, and this page is not going to pretend a vegetable in the batter changes that — the sugar, the flour, the oil and the cream cheese frosting are all still there, and a slice of carrot cake is not meaningfully different from a slice of anything else here. We make no nutrition or health claim about it, and a bakery that does is making one it would have to prove.
What is true is that it tastes less sweet than a chocolate cake, because the spice and the acidity of the cream cheese cut through the sugar rather than adding to it. If somebody has asked for “something not too sweet”, this is one of the two flavours worth suggesting — the other being lemon and raspberry.
Why can the walnuts not come out?
Because they are in the sponge. Walnuts go into the batter with the carrot, where they soften and become part of the crumb, rather than being scattered over the icing at the end — so a version without them is a different recipe rather than the same cake with something omitted. That puts carrot cake among the four flavours here with nuts in them and no nut-free version.
If a nut allergy is the reason you are reading this, the honest answer is on the nut page, and it is more careful than a yes. Our kitchen handles all major allergens (celery, gluten, crustaceans, eggs, fish, lupin, milk, molluscs, mustard, peanuts, sesame, soybeans, sulphur dioxide and sulphites, tree nuts). While we take every care, products may contain traces of allergens.
When is carrot cake the right choice?
When the room is mostly adults, when the cake has to be made a day early, and when somebody has said they do not want chocolate. It is the classic choice for an office gathering, a christening lunch, a seventieth with tea — occasions where the cake is cut and handed round rather than being the centrepiece with candles in it.
It is the wrong choice for a children’s party, where the spice and the cream cheese are the two things a seven-year-old will object to, and for anybody avoiding nuts. For children, salted caramel is the safer bet, and the children’s cake page covers the rest of that decision.
Sizes and portions in full are in the sizes guide, prices on the price page, and an enquiry starts on the order page.
What else do people ask about carrot cake?
- Do you make carrot cake to order?
- Yes — it is one of the ten flavours a custom cake can be made in, so it comes in any of our sizes with whatever decoration you want on it, from £100 for a 6-inch feeding 8–12. It is spiced sponge with cream cheese frosting and walnuts in the recipe.
- Can you make a carrot cake without walnuts?
- No. The walnuts go into the sponge with the carrot rather than onto the icing, so taking them out is a different recipe rather than a change of order. If a nut allergy is the reason you are asking, read the nut page before ordering anything here — this kitchen handles nuts every week.
- Is carrot cake healthier than other cake?
- No, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. It contains grated vegetable, which is where the idea comes from, and it also contains the sugar, flour and oil that make it cake. Choose it because it tastes of spice and cream cheese rather than for anything it is supposed to do for you.
- Does carrot cake keep well?
- Better than most, and that is a genuine advantage rather than marketing. It is an oil-based sponge rather than a butter one, so it stays soft for longer and does not firm up in the fridge the way a creamed-butter cake does. Two days in a cool place is comfortable; it is a sensible choice if the cake has to be made the day before the party.
- Can a carrot cake be decorated like any other?
- Yes. The sponge is a sponge: it takes a themed finish, piped work, a printed topper or a tiered build like the rest of them. Cream cheese frosting is softer than buttercream, so in a hot room it wants shade and a cool table, and for a long outdoor party a different finish may be suggested instead.
- How far ahead should I order a carrot cake?
- 7–10 days, as for any custom cake, and at least 14 for two tiers. A rush adds 50% inside 7 days if the diary has room.
