What size cake do I need for my guests?
Count your guests and pick a size that covers them. Sweet Panda quotes one range per size, cut as the generous slice people eat at a birthday. A wedding finger slice is smaller, so other quotes can look as though they feed more. When unsure, go up.
What is the difference between a party portion and a wedding portion?
A party portion is the generous slice eaten at a birthday, and a wedding portion is a small finger slice, so the same cake yields more of the latter. Every number on this page is the first kind: Sweet Panda quotes one range per size, which is worth knowing when you compare it with a quote that counts the second.
A wedding portion is about one inch square and is usually served with coffee. A party portion is a much larger slice. When you work out how many people a cake feeds, check which kind of portion you are planning for, because the count changes a lot.
Which single-tier cake size suits my guest list?
Single tiers come in six-inch, eight-inch and ten-inch sizes, and there is a five-inch cake below those, finished the baker’s way rather than to a theme. The table below shows the portions for each one.
If you are between two sizes, go up. Leftover cake keeps for a couple of days in an airtight box in the fridge; running out halfway round the room is the harder problem to fix. Tiers can also be made taller for an extra charge, which adds portions; ask us when you enquire.
| Size | Portions | From |
|---|---|---|
| 6" single tier | 8–12 | £100 |
| 8" single tier | 14–18 | £130 |
| 10" single tier | 22–28 | £150 |
When do I need a two-tier cake?
Two-tier cakes pair a six-inch with an eight-inch, and the table below gives the portions and the price. Other combinations and three tiers are priced with your design rather than off a list.
Two tiers suit larger guest lists or a cake that needs to make a visual statement at a celebration. Tell us the number of guests and the occasion in the enquiry form and we will say which size fits. The price comes back within a day.
| Size | Portions | From |
|---|---|---|
| 6" + 8" two tier | 22–30 | £270 |
How much notice do I need before ordering?
Our usual notice is 7–10 days, or at least 14 for two tiers, and a bento cake has its own shorter notice of 3–5 days. The table below lists the notice periods for each product.
If you need a cake sooner, a rush order costs 50% of the price when the notice is under 7 days, and only if the diary has room. Our deposit is 50%, and the balance is due 3 hours before the event, or 7 days for a wedding. Delivery starts from £30.
| What you are ordering | Notice we need |
