One rule, said up front: we take inspiration and make something of our own rather than copying a design. Send the photograph that caught your eye — it is the quickest way to tell us the colours and the mood — and what arrives will be yours rather than a reproduction of somebody else’s cake.

How long it takes
7–10 days for a simple design, at least 14 for two tiers.
Sooner is sometimes possible: a rush adds 50% when the notice is under 7 days, if the diary is clear.
In a hurry? Bento cakes take 3–5 days.

Which themes come up most?
Nationally the four most searched are dinosaurs, unicorns, princesses and whatever film is current — measured in October, dinosaur and football cakes run at about 9,900 searches a month each across the UK, unicorn and princess at 8,100. All four are the same cake underneath: a sponge of your flavour, finished in the colours of the theme, with the modelling on top. What changes is the hours in the decoration.

How big a cake does a children’s party need?
Smaller than you would think, because children eat a child’s slice and half of them are more interested in the icing. A 6-inch cuts 8–12, an 8-inch 14–18, a 10-inch 22–28. Count the adults as well as the children and then add two: the slice that goes home in a napkin is real, and so is the second one for the birthday child.

What should you send with the enquiry?
Five things, and the quote comes back the same day: the theme, the child’s age, how many people are eating, the date, and any allergy in the family. A photograph helps more than a description — not to be copied, but because colour is nearly impossible to describe in words and instantly obvious in a picture. If there is a toy, a book cover or a party invitation the cake should match, photograph that: it is better evidence than a cake somebody else made.
