Pirate Cakes in Bracknell
A pirate cake is a round cake carrying pirate things: a printed treasure map at £20, a figure on top at £15, gold sprinkles for doubloons at £0. The cake under it starts at £100 for a 6-inch cutting 8–12, or £130 for an 8-inch cutting 14–18. Made to order in Bracknell.
A carved ship is possible and is quoted with the design. Before you ask for one, the first section is worth two minutes: for most parties the ship is the expensive way to buy less pirate.

A carved ship, or a round cake with pirates on it?
Round, for almost every party. The two cakes cost very different amounts and deliver the theme in opposite ways: a carved ship spends all of its budget on one silhouette that has to be seen from the side, while a round cake spends a little on each of several props that are seen from above, which is how children standing at a table actually look at a cake. There is also the cutting. A shaped cake carved from a slab has no clean portions in it, and an 8-inch round cuts 14–18 slices without anybody having to decide where the hull ends.
What the same money buys
Printed map, Per one sheet A4 size — £20.
A pirate on top, moulded in chocolate — £15.
Gold sprinkles as doubloons — £0, they are on the list free.
Fondant Finish over the whole cake — £0, which is how you get a flat sea or a plank deck.
Why is a printed map better than a piped one?
Because a map is detail, and detail is what piping is worst at. An edible sugar sheet is printed at £20 and can carry coastlines, a compass rose, dotted routes and small writing at a fineness no nozzle will reach; the same map piped by hand is thicker, vaguer and takes an hour. The honest trade is texture — a printed sheet lies flat and reads as a picture laid on a cake, while piped work sits proud and reads as decoration. For a treasure map the picture wins. The photo cakes page explains how printing onto icing works, and fondant cakes covers what the sheet is laid on.
What age does a pirate cake suit?
Roughly three to eight, and it ages better than most themes because it belongs to no particular programme. A pirate is a pirate in any decade, which is exactly why it is still here while the licensed characters of each year are not — the theme costs nothing in likeness and nothing in trade mark, and a child who liked it at four still recognises it at seven. For a first birthday, the gentler animals on animal cakes suit the photographs better; from about eight onwards the brief usually turns into one specific thing, which is hobby cakes and gaming cakes territory.
