Hobby Cakes in Bracknell
A cake about the person rather than the date: a chess board, gym kit, a garden, a camera, a bag, a map, a book. From £100 for a 6-inch, and usually an 8-inch because a scene needs room.
The rule that decides whether it works: one accurate detail beats five approximate ones, and it costs less to make.

Which subjects are easy, and which are not?
It is almost entirely about geometry. Flat things and boxes are cut from rolled fondant with a straight blade and come out sharp; smooth single forms are modelled in one piece; assemblies of small parts have to be made and dried individually; and curved mechanical objects are the hardest because everybody knows what they should look like. The table below sorts the subjects people actually ask for.
| Subject | Difficulty |
|---|---|
| A board game or a boardFlat surfaces and printed detail | Easiest |
| A book or a stack of themRectangles with edges painted on | Easiest |
| A fish, a bird, an animalOne smooth modelled form | Straightforward |
| A bag, a shoe, a cameraA box shape with hardware modelled on | Straightforward |
| A garden, a landscape, a mapPainted and piped rather than built | Straightforward |
| Gym kit, tools, instrumentsSeveral small pieces, each dried separately | Slower |
| A car, a motorbike, a vehicleCurves carved and wheels that must sit true | Hardest |
Why does one detail beat a pile of them?
Because recognition is binary. A chess board with the pieces in a real position is a chess cake; a chess board with the pieces scattered is a cake with squares on it. Adding a clock, a trophy and a scoresheet does not make it more of a chess cake — it divides the attention and adds three objects that each had to be modelled and dried.
The cost runs the same way. Every modelled object is time, and time is most of the price, so the cluttered version is both the more expensive cake and the less effective one. If the budget is tight, spend it on getting one thing exactly right.
Built, painted or printed?
Three routes at three prices. Modelling builds the object in sugar and is quoted with the design — it has presence and it survives as a keepsake. Hand-painting at £45 puts a scene on the surface and is unbeatable for landscapes, gardens and anything atmospheric. Printing at £20 a sheet carries photographs, maps and fine lettering that nothing else can.
Fishing cakes are the most-asked hobby of all, car cakes the hardest, photo cakes cover printing, and corporate cakes the work version of the same idea.
