Funfetti & Sprinkle Cakes in Bracknell

A funfetti cake is a vanilla sponge with sprinkles baked through it, so every slice is flecked with colour. A 6-inch starts at £100 and cuts 8–12; the 8-inch at £130 cuts 14–18. Sprinkles on the outside are £0 — they are on the list at no charge. Made to order in Bracknell.

One thing is worth knowing before you order this cake anywhere: the sprinkles that look best in the jar are the ones that ruin it in the oven. The section below says which kind to ask for and why.

A funfetti sponge is priced as a vanilla one: the sprinkles are not an extra. Every figure is a floor for that size, with the finish agreed per order — the price guide sets out the add-ons. Delivery from £30 by distance, or free collection.

Which sprinkles survive the oven?

The flat strands, and almost nothing else. A sprinkle is a sugar shape with colour either through it or on it, and that difference decides what happens in a wet batter: strands — the short cylinders, sometimes sold as jimmies — are coloured through and hold their edges, while nonpareils, the balls under a millimetre across, carry their colour as a coating that dissolves into the crumb around them. Bake a cake with nonpareils and the specks spread into a grey-green haze; bake the same cake with strands and it comes out looking like confetti. Sugar pearls and shaped confetti discs sit in between and are safer on top than inside.

What each kind does in a sponge

Strands, about 4mm long — hold their colour and their shape. The one to ask for.

Nonpareils, under 1mm — bleed. Fine scattered on buttercream, wrong in batter.

Sugar pearls, 2–8mm — survive, but sink. Better pressed onto the outside.

Metallic and edible sparkle finishes — a surface decoration in every case, never a batter one.

How is this different from a rainbow cake?

One colours the crumb, the other colours the layers. A funfetti sponge is a single batter with colour scattered through it, and it reads as cheerful from close up; a rainbow cake is six separately baked sponges stacked, and it reads as a stunt from across the room. The practical difference is the oven: funfetti is one bake, a rainbow is six, which is why one is priced as a plain vanilla cake and the other has its layers quoted with the order. If the cake is for a small child, funfetti usually wins — the specks look like sweets, and nobody has to explain the joke.

What goes on the outside of a funfetti cake?

Less than you would think. The inside is doing the work, so the finishes that suit it are the plain ones — smooth buttercream in one colour, or a rim of the same sprinkles pressed round the base, which costs nothing because sprinkles are on the add-on list at £0. What fights it is a busy fondant theme: a character and a flecked crumb are two cakes arguing. For a cake whose outside has to carry the theme instead, buttercream cakes and cake designs set out what each finish costs and how long it takes.
