Superhero Cakes in Bracknell

A superhero cake starts at £100 for a 6-inch with an emblem cut from fondant — flat shapes in two or three strong colours, part of the finish rather than an extra. An 8-inch with a city skyline is £130; a printed design is £20; a modelled figure is £15. Made to order in Bracknell.

What this kitchen does not do is copy a studio's artwork. Name the hero in the enquiry and you will get the cake everybody recognises — the colours, the emblem, the skyline — drawn fresh rather than traced.

Which parts of a superhero survive being made of sugar?

Three of them, and they are all flat. An emblem works because it was designed to be read at a glance in two colours. A colour scheme works — red and gold, black and yellow, blue and red — and a cake in nothing but the right two colours is recognised across a room before anybody sees a logo. A skyline works: a strip of black fondant cut into rooftops around the side of the cake turns it into a city for the price of the covering. What does not survive is a face, a muscled torso or a cape in mid-air, because all three need modelling at a size where the detail cannot be held.

The same hero, three budgets

£100 — a 6-inch in the right two colours with the emblem on top.

£130 — an 8-inch with a skyline around the side, 14–18 slices.

£150 — the same cake with a printed comic panel, or the child's own photograph in costume.

What if the child is the superhero?

That is the version that works best of all, and it sidesteps the copyright question completely. A photograph of the child in a costume, printed onto a sugar sheet at £20 and laid on an 8-inch cake, is a cake about them rather than about a film. The practical requirements are a photograph taken in daylight, square-ish, with the face filling a good part of the frame — a printed sheet is about the size of the top of the cake, so a full-length picture comes out with a very small person in it. Photo cakes covers what prints well.

What do grown-ups order from this page?

More than you would think, and they order the logo rather than the character: a black cake with one yellow emblem, no figures, no skyline, for a thirtieth or a fortieth. It reads as a joke between adults instead of a children's cake, and it is the cheapest design on the page because a single cut shape on a plain-covered cake is included in the finish. Birthday cakes for men and black and gold cakes both end up here, and logo cakes explains how an emblem is cut.
