How long it takes
7–10 days for a simple design, at least 14 for two tiers.
Sooner is sometimes possible: a rush adds 50% when the notice is under 7 days, if the diary is clear.

Why does the date move every year?
Because Mothering Sunday is the fourth Sunday of Lent, not a fixed day in March, and Lent is counted back from Easter — which itself moves with the moon. So the date arrives somewhere between the start of March and the beginning of April, and the only reliable way to know it is to compute it. Is a cake better than flowers?
They answer different problems, and the honest division is this: flowers are for a person who will be on her own with them, a cake is for a table with people around it. Where a cake wins is that it gives the afternoon a shape — something to cut, a reason to sit down, and a photograph nobody had to arrange. Where it loses is with somebody who lives alone and does not want a 6-inch cake in the house, which is exactly what the 4" bento at £70 is for.
What if the family is spread across two lunches?
Order two small cakes rather than one big one. Half a cake travelling across town in the afternoon arrives looking like half a cake, and the household that gets the second half knows it. Two bentos are £140 together, 12 cupcakes are £72 and box into two lots of 6, and either costs less than the apology. Say in the enquiry that it is going to two houses and it will be boxed that way.
