Mini and Small Cakes in Bracknell
Four ways to buy a small cake here: a 4" bento at £70, a 5-inch at £90, a 6-inch at £100, or 6 cupcakes at £36. They serve between 4 and 12 people.
The table below works out what a portion costs in each, because the answer is not the order you would guess: the two smallest cakes are the dearest per slice, and the 6-inch is better value per portion than the 4" that costs thirty pounds less than it.

What does a portion of each actually cost?
This is the comparison worth making before you choose, and the table below sets it out cheapest first. Every figure is the kitchen's own price divided by the portions it serves — no rounding, no assumptions about how generously it is cut.
| What you order | Price | Portions | Per portion |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6 cupcakesOne each, already divided, no knife | £36 | 6 | £6.00 |
| 6" cakeThe smallest size that takes a theme | £100 | 8–12 | £8.33–12.50 |
| 4" bento boxA 4" cake and 5 matching cupcakes | £100 | 9 | £11.11 |
| 4" bento cakeWriting on top, ready in days rather than a week | £70 | 4 | £17.50 |
| 5" cakeFinished the baker’s way, decided on the day | £90 | 4 | £22.50 |
The ordering is the point. Cupcakes are the cheapest way to give a few people cake, and the 5-inch is the most expensive cake per portion on the whole list — between twice and nearly three times the 6-inch, depending on how generously the larger one is cut.
Why does a smaller cake cost more per slice?
Because a cake is bought in hours rather than in ingredients. Baking, levelling, filling, crumb-coating, chilling, finishing, writing and boxing are the same list of jobs at every diameter, and most of them take the same time on a four-inch cake as on an eight. What shrinks is the flour, the butter and the sugar — the cheapest part of the whole exercise.
So the economics run the opposite way from a supermarket, where a small one is a smaller price for a smaller thing. Here, a small cake is a full piece of work on a small scale, and that is what you are paying for. If the number of portions is what matters, go up a size; if the occasion is two people and a candle, the small one is the right cake at a price that reflects the hour it took.
Which small cake suits which occasion?
For two people after dinner, the 4" bento: it is sized so that nothing is left to feel guilty about, it takes a message on top, and it is ready in 3–5 days rather than a week. For something handed over at work, 6 cupcakes, because they need no plate and no knife. For a small party with a theme, the 6-inch, which is the smallest size a themed decoration is offered on.
And for a cake that is a gesture rather than a brief — a thank-you, a get-well, a something-for-no-reason — the 5-inch at £90, finished the baker's way and decided on the day. It is the one cake here you cannot specify, which is either the whole charm of it or a reason to choose something else.
The bento page has the flavours and colours, cupcakes the quantities, and the tasting page explains using a small cake to try a flavour before a large order.
