What is the Orange & Sour Cherry Cake, and how does it taste?
Orange & Sour Cherry Cake is a layered sponge cake, made to order in our Bracknell studio. It is built from juicy orange sponge, with a tangy cherry mousse and a cherry filling running through it. Smooth vanilla cream and silky orange cremeux sit between the layers, so the cake moves from the sharpness of the cherry to the softer, creamier notes of the orange and vanilla.
The sponge is juicy, the cherry mousse is tangy, and the vanilla cream and orange cremeux are both smooth and silky. The cake comes in six-inch, eight-inch and ten-inch sizes, all the same height: 6 inches. It contains gluten, eggs and milk.
How does it differ from our Black Forest and Strawberry & Exotic Fruit cakes?
Unlike the Black Forest, it has an orange sponge, whereas the Strawberry & Exotic Fruit Cake has a lemon zest sponge. The Black Forest is a rich chocolate sponge layered with creamy frosting and tangy cherries, and it is built around indulgence. Ours uses a cherry mousse and cherry filling inside the layers, rather than frosting with cherries on it.
Set against the Strawberry & Exotic Fruit Cake, which is layered with silky vanilla cream, strawberry mousse and exotic fruit curd, our cake keeps the vanilla cream but swaps the strawberry for cherry and the curd for orange cremeux. The Strawberry & Exotic Fruit Cake is vibrant and refreshing, with exotic fruit at its heart. Ours is built on orange and sour cherry instead, so the fruit is citrus and cherry rather than strawberry and exotic.
