What is the Classic Honey Cake and how does it taste?
The Classic Honey Cake is a layered honey cake, also known as medovik, from Eastern Europe. Thin honey layers are generously soaked in velvety vanilla pastry cream, and the result is a soft texture that melts in the mouth. Every slice has honey and cream together in the same bite.
In our photographs the cake has a crumb-coated top and sides, which gives it a neat, even finish. Fresh berries, meringues and satin ribbons are used to decorate it, and birthday and New Year toppers are added for those occasions. Each cake is made to order in the size you choose: six-inch, eight-inch or ten-inch, all the same height, 5 inches.
How does the Classic Honey Cake differ from our other honey cakes?
Unlike the Spartak, which has chocolate honey layers, the Classic Honey Cake has thin honey layers soaked in vanilla pastry cream. The Spartak can be made with vanilla or chocolate pastry cream, whereas our Classic Honey Cake is made with vanilla.
The Honey Cake with Prunes & Nuts is different again. It has a caramel cream, prunes and walnuts, rather than the vanilla pastry cream of the Classic. If you want the plain honey and vanilla version, choose the Classic; if you want caramel, prunes and walnuts, choose the Prunes & Nuts cake.
So the three honey cakes differ in their layers and their cream. The Spartak has chocolate layers, the Classic has honey layers with vanilla cream, and the Prunes & Nuts has caramel cream with prunes and walnuts.
